Students of L5 ELT class from Collede de Bethel / APARUDE conducted an educational visit to the Nyabarongo Hydropower Plant, one of Rwanda’s major sources of renewable energy. The visit aimed to give students practical exposure to science and technology concepts learned in class.
Accompanied by their teachers, students were guided by professional engineers who explained the hydropower generation process. They learned how water from the Nyabarongo River is stored behind the dam, flows through turbines, and generates electricity that powers homes, schools, and industries across the country. Students also observed the control room and understood the importance of safety and maintenance at the plant.
Plant officials highlighted that hydropower is a key renewable energy source for Rwanda, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support sustainable development.
One teacher commented, “This visit allowed students to connect theory with practice, deepening their understanding of energy transformation and environmental responsibility.”
Students expressed excitement about seeing renewable energy in action and said the experience inspired them to consider future careers in science, engineering, and environmental studies.
The school administration reaffirmed its commitment to organizing more educational trips to enhance learning and motivate students in STEM subjects.
